100-kilo tiger shark released unharmed after Antique fishing competition

ILOILO CITY — Fishermen in Antique released a large tiger shark back into the ocean on Saturday after the predator became unexpectedly hooked during a traditional jigging competition in Caluya. The shark, known locally as "bagis," was caught at approximately 10:30 a.m. near Barangay Alegria, drawing attention from participants and organizers of the fishing event.

The 100-kilogram specimen was unharmed during the incident and successfully returned to its natural habitat, according to reports from the municipality. The catch underscored the abundance and diversity of marine life in waters surrounding the island community.

The release of the tiger shark adds to a growing record of notable marine encounters in the Caluya area, highlighting the region's ecological significance and the presence of apex predators in local waters.
