LUCENA CITY — Authorities are searching for an 11-year-old boy who disappeared after being swept away by raging floodwaters in Mabini, Batangas, on Tuesday afternoon.

The Calabarzon police identified the missing child as "Terenz," a resident of Barangay San Jose. The boy was swept into a canal during the height of heavy rains that battered the area, according to police reports released Wednesday.

The incident occurred as intense rainfall triggered flooding in various parts of the province. Emergency responders and local authorities have initiated search and rescue operations in the canal and surrounding areas where the child was last seen.

The search comes as the region braces for continued wet weather. Authorities urged residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions during heavy downpours.
