15 workers rescued after iron slab collapses at Gandhinagar construction site

The incident occurred around 9 p.m. when an iron slab being hoisted between two adjacent structures at the construction site suddenly gave way, pinning workers underneath the fallen material.

Local authorities and emergency services responded rapidly to the scene, launching a rescue operation that resulted in the extraction of 15 workers from beneath the debris. The workers were assessed by medical personnel at the site before being transported to nearby medical facilities.

Twelve of the rescued workers were hospitalised for treatment of injuries sustained in the collapse. Authorities have not disclosed the severity of their conditions or provided details regarding the remaining three rescued workers.

Initial investigations suggest a structural failure in the iron slab assembly, though officials have not yet determined the precise cause of the collapse. The construction site has been secured and further structural assessments are likely underway to prevent additional incidents.

Gandhinagar district officials indicated that a formal inquiry would be initiated to examine safety protocols at the construction site and identify any lapses in structural engineering or worker protection measures.
