1MDB investigation status unchanged despite Najib conditional pardon
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission says each case linked to the 1MDB scandal must be evaluated individually based on its specific circumstances and investigative findings. The statement comes after former Prime Minister Najib Razak received a conditional royal pardon.

The MACC has clarified that the conditional royal pardon granted to Najib Razak does not alter the investigative status or handling of other cases connected to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad scandal.
Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki emphasized that each matter arising from the 1MDB affair must be assessed separately, taking into account the distinct issues involved and the evidence uncovered during investigations.
The clarification addresses potential concerns about whether the pardon could affect the broader 1MDB probe or impact ongoing cases against other individuals implicated in the scandal. The MACC's position underscores that investigative processes will continue according to their respective merits and legal frameworks.
Najib's conditional pardon, announced in August, reduced his 12-year prison sentence to six years. However, he remains subject to a separate fine in his money laundering conviction related to funds transferred to his personal bank accounts.
