2027 Budget Should Include Parliamentary Allocation Law, Says MP

Syahredzan Johan, the Member of Parliament for Bangi, urged the government to incorporate measures into the 2027 budget that would establish a legal framework for constituency allocations. He argued that the current system lacks adequate guidelines to ensure equitable distribution of parliamentary resources.

The PH lawmaker emphasized that allocation disbursements should be proportionate to the geographical size and demographic composition of individual parliamentary constituencies. Syahredzan noted that constituencies vary significantly in area and population, yet many receive similar funding levels under existing arrangements.

"A proper legal framework is essential to bring transparency and fairness to how parliamentary resources are distributed across all constituencies," Syahredzan said, highlighting disparities that have persisted under previous budget cycles.

His comments come as Malaysia prepares its budget proposal for the 2027 fiscal year. The proposal is expected to address various policy priorities and fiscal allocations across different government sectors and administrative divisions.

The call for legislative provisions governing constituency allocations reflects ongoing parliamentary debates over resource equity and the need for standardized criteria in determining budget distributions to elected representatives' constituencies.
