49 Indians among 261 foreigners missing after Nepal flooding

Forty-nine Indian nationals remain missing following the catastrophic flooding that struck Nepal's Gyirong area on August 26, according to the latest assessment. The disaster has affected hundreds of foreign visitors to the region, with 261 people still unaccounted for across multiple nationalities.
The flood, which struck without warning, left numerous pilgrims and tourists stranded across various locations. Among those affected were around 102 pilgrims from Nagpur in Maharashtra, who were trapped in Kathmandu following the disaster. The group has now safely returned to India after receiving assistance and clearance to travel.
Indian authorities have been coordinating with Nepali officials and local rescue operations to locate the missing nationals. The scale of the disaster has complicated search and rescue efforts, with challenging terrain and weather conditions hampering access to affected areas.
The incident has raised concerns about safety protocols for pilgrim groups visiting border regions during monsoon season. Authorities in both countries are reviewing safety measures for cross-border travel as rescue operations continue in the aftermath of the flooding.
