KUALA LUMPUR — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported on Thursday that 55 Malaysians have not been reached in the aftermath of natural disasters that swept through Nepal and China, prompting officials to intensify search and contact operations.
Wisma Putra, the ministry's headquarters, did not specify how many citizens were unaccounted for in each country or provide details on the exact locations affected. The flooding and landslide events have caused significant disruption across the region, with communications and access routes severely impacted in disaster zones.
The Foreign Ministry said it was coordinating with Malaysian diplomatic missions in both countries to locate the missing nationals and verify their safety. Malaysians with relatives or contacts in the affected areas were advised to reach out to their families through alternative communication channels if possible.
Official channels urged concerned citizens to contact the ministry's operations centre for updates or to report information about unaccounted Malaysians. The situation remains fluid as authorities continue assessment efforts in both countries.
