55 Malaysians unaccounted for in Nepal flooding disaster

Malaysia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wisma Putra, confirmed on Tuesday that 55 Malaysian nationals remain uncontactable following severe flooding that has swept across Nepal. While rescue operations have recovered numerous foreign nationals, none have been identified as Malaysian citizens to date.

The floods, triggered by heavy monsoon rains and landslides, have affected multiple districts across Nepal's mountainous terrain. Local authorities report a mounting casualty toll as emergency teams navigate treacherous conditions to reach isolated communities and stranded tourists.

Wisma Putra said it is working closely with Malaysian diplomatic missions in Nepal and regional partners to verify the whereabouts of the unaccounted Malaysians and provide necessary assistance to those affected. The ministry has urged Malaysian citizens in Nepal to register with the nearest embassy or consulate and to avoid travel to flood-affected areas.

Nepal's government has appealed for international humanitarian assistance as the scale of the disaster becomes clearer. Search and rescue teams from multiple countries have been mobilised to support local efforts, though challenging weather conditions continue to hamper operations.
