A broad-based selloff engulfed Indian equity markets as foreign institutional investors (FIIs) continued their withdrawal of funds from domestic stocks. The persistent outflows, totaling more than ₹10,148 crore on September 30, marked the fifth day of consecutive net selling by overseas investors, signaling growing caution about the Indian market outlook.
Seventy-two stocks from the BSE500 index plummeted to 52-week lows during the session, reflecting the widespread nature of the downturn. Among the heaviest-hit blue-chip names were Reliance Industries, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, Maruti Suzuki, Bharti Airtel, and PB Fintech, indicating that weakness extended across sectors including energy, automobiles, telecom, and fintech.
The sustained FII selling has become a key concern for market participants, as foreign investors have trimmed their exposure following a period of strong inflows earlier in the year. Analysts attribute the reversal to a combination of factors, including global interest rate considerations, emerging market dynamics, and concerns about domestic economic growth.
The broader Indian equity market has grappled with volatility amid the foreign investor exodus, with the continued selling likely to keep sentiment fragile in the near term. Market participants are closely monitoring whether the FII outflows will stabilize or accelerate further in coming sessions.
