₹840-crore highway project approved ahead of Godavari Pushkaram

A major infrastructure initiative to upgrade the Buttaigudem-Kovvur highway has been sanctioned with an investment of ₹840 crore, timed ahead of the Godavari Pushkaram festival. The project aims to bolster connectivity to the Polavaram Irrigation Project and nearby villages in the region.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari approved the highway upgradation project, recognizing its strategic importance for the area. The improved road infrastructure is expected to facilitate better access for pilgrims and residents during the Pushkaram celebrations, one of the most significant religious gatherings held every 12 years at the Godavari River.
The Polavaram Irrigation Project, a major multi-purpose water resource development scheme in Andhra Pradesh, stands to benefit significantly from the enhanced transportation infrastructure. The upgraded highway will reduce travel time and improve the overall connectivity of the region, supporting both economic activity and pilgrimage-related tourism.
