Dale Sanders, a 91-year-old from Tennessee known in hiking circles as "Grey Beard," has successfully completed the entire length of the Appalachian Trail, reclaiming his title as the oldest person to accomplish the feat. The trail spans 2,193 miles across 14 states along the eastern seaboard of the United States.

Sanders' completion of the trail came after an arduous journey marked by significant physical challenges. During his trek, the nonagenarian experienced 71 falls, including six particularly severe incidents that resulted in injuries. The demanding nature of the hike took a toll on Sanders' health, necessitating brief hospitalisation during the expedition.
