AAP flags potential graft in Delhi water board's Yamuna foam removal plan

The Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday raised concerns over potential corruption in the Delhi Jal Board's (DJB) operations related to chemical spraying in the Yamuna River to combat foam formation.

According to AAP Delhi leadership, containers belonging to a private company involved in the project have been marked "Defoamer Stock," suggesting that tanks and spraying equipment have already been installed and made operational. The party contended that such premature deployment raises questions about the procurement procedure and whether proper tendering protocols were followed.

"The infrastructure for chemical spraying appears to be in place even as the formal procurement process is ongoing," said AAP representatives, alleging that the sequencing of events indicates potential irregularities in how the contract was awarded or executed.

The DJB has previously undertaken anti-frothing operations on the Yamuna to address seasonal foam accumulation caused by industrial discharge and sewage pollution. The latest allegations add to ongoing scrutiny of the water board's management practices and procurement decisions.

The claims come as Delhi continues to grapple with persistent water quality issues in the Yamuna, one of India's most polluted river stretches as it flows through the national capital.
