Saurabh Bharadwaj, president of the AAP's Delhi unit, filed a written complaint with the city's police commissioner Thursday, seeking registration of a first information report and an independent inquiry into allegations of assault during recent protests.
In his formal complaint, Bharadwaj alleged he suffered multiple incidents of "life-threatening" physical violence at the hands of Delhi Police and paramilitary personnel deployed during public gatherings. He described three separate occasions when he claimed to have been assaulted, characterizing the pattern as deliberate rather than routine crowd-control measures.
Bharadwaj contended that the repeated nature and manner of the alleged attacks indicate "a coordinated criminal conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm or death under the guise of official duty." He called for an investigation into what he termed a "dangerous, life-threatening pattern" of violence, arguing that such incidents fall outside the scope of standard policing procedures.
The complaint marks an escalation in tensions between the AAP and Delhi Police, with the party alleging systematic targeting of its leadership during demonstrations. The police commissioner's office has not yet responded to the allegations.
