A long-shuttered retail outlet in Roswell, Georgia, has been given new life through an ambitious urban renewal project that demonstrates the shifting landscape of American commercial real estate. The Kohl's store, which closed its doors in 2016 and remained vacant for nearly a decade, has been comprehensively redeveloped into a large multi-purpose facility at a cost of $28 million.
Eagles Nest Church spearheaded the acquisition and renovation of the site, transforming the 80,000-square-foot space into a modern community venue designed to serve multiple functions. The extensive redevelopment work included comprehensive interior and structural modifications to adapt the former retail environment for its new purpose.
The newly renovated facility is scheduled to begin operations in September 2026, initially hosting worship services alongside various community events. The venue's design accommodates large-scale gatherings and cultural programmes, positioning it as a significant community asset.
Developers have outlined additional expansion plans for the property, with retail and family-oriented businesses set to be established on the surrounding grounds. The project illustrates the growing trend across North America of converting abandoned commercial properties into community-focused spaces that serve local populations.
