Abra de Ilog-Puerto Galera road reopens after landslide clearing

The Abra de Ilog–Puerto Galera Road in Sitio Lukutan, Barangay Udalo reopened to traffic on Friday after heavy equipment cleared debris from a landslide that had blocked the thoroughfare. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) confirmed the route was passable following the completion of clearing operations.
Despite the reopening, the DPWH advised motorists to exercise extreme caution while traveling the section. A large boulder remains unstably positioned above the roadway, presenting a potential hazard to vehicles and passengers passing beneath it.
The road serves as an important link between the municipalities in Oriental Mindoro and experiences regular traffic from both commercial and private vehicles. The department did not announce a timeline for permanent stabilization of the overhanging boulder or other preventive measures to secure the area.
