The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has escalated its opposition to a planned documentary screening at the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) in Bengaluru, writing to Union ministers to permanently block the event.
While a scheduled screening on September 14 did not take place, students associated with the law school organized an alternative gathering. The event featured readings from recent letters written by Umar Khalid to his family members, followed by a collective recitation of the Preamble to the Indian Constitution.
The documentary in question focuses on Umar Khalid, a civil rights activist and former student activist who has faced legal proceedings. The screening had been planned by student groups at the institution, prompting the ABVP to seek ministerial intervention to prevent its future broadcast.
