ABVP protests at JNU over professor facing sexual harassment allegations

Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) held a protest at Jawaharlal Nehru University on Monday against Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, a professor accused of sexual harassment. According to the protesting students, at least 11 students have filed sexual harassment complaints against the faculty member.

The demonstration reflects growing concerns over workplace conduct and accountability in academic institutions across India. The protesters called for swift action and stringent measures to ensure campus safety and prevent further incidents of misconduct.

JNU administration has not yet issued a formal statement regarding the allegations or the ongoing investigation. The university's Internal Complaints Committee typically handles such matters in accordance with institutional guidelines and legal provisions.

The incident comes amid heightened scrutiny of sexual harassment complaints in Indian educational institutions, following increased awareness campaigns and enforcement of workplace protection policies. Student organizations have been actively advocating for stronger institutional mechanisms to address such grievances and ensure timely redressal.
