ABVP stages democracy rally in Patna as institutional pressure row intensifies

Student wing activists of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (ABVP) took to the streets in Patna on Thursday, raising concerns about democratic institutions and governance processes. The rally, framed as a 'Save Democracy' initiative, drew participation from party cadres who voiced opposition to what they characterised as undue pressure on constitutional establishments.

ABVP National Secretary Abhay Pratap Singh addressed the gathering, emphasising that democratic transitions should occur through ballot boxes rather than mob mobilisation. Singh's remarks underscored the organisation's position that attempts to pressurise constitutional institutions undermine democratic norms and institutional integrity.

The march reflects growing political tensions in Bihar, with different stakeholder groups voicing competing perspectives on institutional autonomy and democratic governance. ABVP leaders used the platform to advocate for what they termed constitutional propriety and adherence to electoral processes.

The demonstration occurs against the backdrop of broader debates across India regarding institutional independence and political pressure, with various organisations and leaders weighing in on questions of democratic practice and institutional safeguards.
