Activist Wangchuk threatens hunger strike as police detain actor Khan

Sonam Wangchuk, the prominent education reformist and activist from Ladakh, has signalled his intention to launch a hunger strike, intensifying pressure on authorities over issues affecting the region. The announcement arrives amid a broader crackdown that has resulted in the detention of actor Imran Khan, whose arrest has drawn scrutiny from film industry figures.

The detention of Khan during police operations has provoked sharp criticism from within the entertainment sector. Actor and producer Prakash Raj condemned the detentions, raising concerns about civil liberties, while filmmaker Anurag Kashyap voiced support for the protesters whose actions have triggered the police response.

Meanwhile, the INDIA opposition alliance has mobilized for significant political action, planning a major protest scheduled for October 12. The demonstration is being organized to challenge Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar's administration, signalling growing discontent over electoral governance among opposition parties.

The confluence of activism, police enforcement, and political mobilization underscores rising tensions in the region, with various stakeholders escalating their responses to what they view as governance failures and administrative overreach.
