Actor Thomas Ong has recounted a series of unfortunate events that marred his recent solo holiday in Japan, culminating in a fractured ankle that required hospital treatment.
The 57-year-old navigated the roads to a medical facility himself, driving despite the pain from his injury. Speaking about the experience, Ong reflected on the setbacks with humour, noting that his trip had been plagued by mishaps beyond the ankle fracture.
In addition to the injury, Ong lost his wallet during the holiday and accidentally dropped his mobile phone into water, rendering it unusable. The combination of incidents left him with limited resources and means of communication during his time in Japan.
Despite the challenges, Ong maintained a lighthearted perspective on the difficulties he encountered. He quipped that rather than the typical souvenirs tourists bring home from Japan, his keepsakes from the trip would be a pair of crutches—a reference to the mobility aids required during his recovery from the ankle fracture.
