Adani Green Energy Ltd has scaled its operational battery energy storage system (BESS) capacity to 6.63 GWh, positioning itself to store sufficient renewable energy to supply approximately two million households daily. The milestone, announced Thursday, represents a significant acceleration in India's transition toward grid-scale energy storage infrastructure, with the company achieving roughly 70 percent of its FY27 target ahead of the financial year-end.
The expanded storage capacity is equivalent to the peak electricity demand across major Indian cities including Nagpur, Patna, and Visakhapatnam for multiple hours, underscoring the scale of infrastructure being deployed. Adani Green Energy now commands more than half of India's operational BESS capacity, which totals approximately 12.6 GWh, reinforcing the group's dominance in this emerging sector critical to grid stability and renewable energy integration.
The company achieved the 6.63 GWh milestone within 14 months of commencing on-site construction at Khavda in Gujarat, demonstrating accelerated deployment capabilities. This progress positions Adani Green Energy to add over 10 GWh of additional storage capacity during FY26-27, maintaining its aggressive expansion trajectory.
The infrastructure employs lithium-ion battery technology integrated with advanced energy management systems to optimize power storage and distribution. Over the next five years, Adani Green Energy is targeting 50 GWh of total storage capacity, aligning with India's broader efforts to enhance grid reliability as renewable energy capacity expands across the nation.
