Adani Group eyes ₹1 lakh crore West Bengal push through 2035

The Adani Group has outlined plans to channel ₹1 lakh crore into West Bengal by 2035, marking a significant deepening of the conglomerate's presence across India's eastern industrial heartland. The investment blueprint encompasses multiple segments of the power value chain, signalling the group's intent to become a major player beyond its existing operations in the state.

Central to the group's strategy is diversification within the power sector, with particular focus on generation and transmission assets. The expansion plans position Adani to compete more aggressively in segments traditionally dominated by incumbent operators, particularly in the distribution space where consolidation remains limited.

The move carries particular significance for Kolkata's power distribution landscape, which has been controlled by the R.P. Sanjiv Goenka Group through its flagship company CESC Limited. Adani's entry into this segment could reshape competitive dynamics in one of eastern India's most strategic utility markets.

The investment commitment reflects broader corporate interest in West Bengal's infrastructure development and energy transition priorities. As the state pursues economic growth targets and renewable energy adoption, competition among large industrial groups for utility assets and generation capacity is expected to intensify.
