Adani Ports sets record with 50 million tonnes cargo in August

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) handled 50 million tonnes of cargo in August, marking its strongest monthly performance to date, the company said. The throughput rose 19 per cent from 41.9 million tonnes in the same month last year, underpinned by accelerating domestic economic activity, growing containerised trade and a varied cargo portfolio.

Growth was evenly distributed across cargo categories. Dry cargo volumes climbed 25 per cent year-on-year during the month, while container volumes increased 15 per cent. Coal, iron ore, limestone and other mineral shipments contributed significantly to the expansion, reflecting continued demand from India's manufacturing and infrastructure sectors.

The strong August performance comes as India's economy maintains its expansion trajectory despite headwinds from geopolitical tensions and ongoing realignments in global shipping routes and supply chains. APSEZ's diversified operational footprint bolstered results, with contributions from international terminals including North Queensland Export Terminal in Queensland, Australia, and Colombo West International Terminal in Sri Lanka, which added to overall throughput gains.

The record cargo volume underscores the port operator's ability to capitalise on India's growing trade flows while leveraging its regional portfolio to benefit from broader Asian and global commerce.
