AdaniConneX's Vizag data centres to slash water use with air-cooling tech
AdaniConneX's new data centre campuses in Visakhapatnam will employ air-cooled systems to dramatically reduce freshwater consumption as the city positions itself as a major hub for artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure.

The planned facilities at Mudasarlova and Tarluvada, being developed in partnership with Google, will collectively generate approximately 1 gigawatt of capacity while maintaining minimal environmental impact through innovative cooling technology.
Unlike conventional data centres that rely on water-intensive evaporative cooling systems and cooling towers, AdaniConneX's campuses will adopt air-based cooling technology. This shift eliminates the substantial volumes of freshwater typically consumed by traditional cooling infrastructure, a significant consideration in water-stressed regions.
Across the three proposed sites, freshwater consumption will be restricted to less than the volume of an Olympic-sized swimming pool. Of this limited freshwater requirement, approximately 80 per cent will be allocated to landscaping, kitchen facilities, and worker amenities, with water recycling protocols implemented to further reduce overall consumption.
The development reflects growing industry efforts to balance data centre expansion with environmental sustainability. As Visakhapatnam emerges as a critical node in India's digital infrastructure strategy, the project demonstrates how large-scale tech investments can incorporate water conservation measures without compromising operational efficiency or capacity.
