Suvendu Adhikari, a prominent BJP figure in West Bengal, has reaffirmed the constitutional guarantees protecting citizens' freedom to choose their dietary practices and religious observances. Speaking on the matter, Adhikari noted that religious and spiritual leaders from various faiths regularly offer guidance to their followers, but ultimately such counsel remains advisory.
"It is for people to decide whether they want to accept the views of dharma gurus or not," Adhikari stated, underscoring the autonomy granted to individuals in such personal matters. He emphasized that India's constitutional framework provides explicit protections for these choices.
Adhikari specifically referenced the Indian Constitution, drafted by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, as the guarantor of such freedoms. "Our great Constitution, written by Babasaheb Ambedkar, has given you the freedom" to make these decisions, he said, highlighting the secular and pluralistic values embedded in the nation's founding document.
His remarks come amid broader discussions across India regarding the interplay between religious guidance and individual liberty, with Adhikari's statement serving as a reminder of the constitutional protections available to all citizens regardless of their personal choices on food and faith practices.
