Advocacy groups charge Kerala nursing body with SC/ST admission bias

Tribal and Dalit advocacy groups operating across Kerala have formally raised concerns with state authorities over alleged systemic discrimination in nursing programme admissions, citing irregularities in how the LBS Centre for Science and Technology sequences seat allotments.

The groups contend that procedural deficiencies in the seat allocation mechanism have effectively barred SC and ST aspirants from gaining access to higher-tier seats, thereby disenfranchising members of these marginalised communities from educational advancement opportunities.

The controversy centres on the sequencing protocols employed during seat distribution rounds, with advocates arguing that the existing framework does not adequately protect reserved category candidates' chances of securing upgraded positions. The groups have submitted representations to the Kerala government seeking intervention and systemic reforms to ensure equitable access.

The LBS Centre for Science and Technology, which oversees technical education admissions in the state, has not yet publicly responded to the allegations. The matter highlights ongoing tensions between admission management bodies and social welfare organisations over implementation of reservation policies in professional courses.
