Aeon eyes massive expansion in Vietnam through 2031

Aeon Corporation is preparing for significant growth in the Vietnamese market under its medium-term business plan extending through March 2031, with the group projecting operating revenue to exceed 300 billion Japanese yen—approximately 1.9 billion US dollars—in the country alone.
The retail conglomerate intends to substantially expand its supermarket footprint across Vietnam, increasing its network from approximately 60 stores currently to around 300 outlets. The expansion will encompass its MaxValu chain and other retail formats designed to serve Vietnam's growing consumer base.
Vietnam has emerged as Aeon's priority market within Southeast Asia, with the country designated to receive roughly 60 percent of the group's planned regional investments. This concentration underscores the company's confidence in Vietnam's retail potential and middle-class consumption trends.
The expansion plan coincides with increasing bilateral trade between Japan and Vietnam, including initiatives to promote Vietnamese agricultural products such as Hai Duong lychees in Japanese markets and efforts to deepen cooperation in strategic sectors including semiconductors. Aeon's retail network expansion is expected to facilitate greater product exchange and economic integration between the two nations.
