AFP modernization budget to jump P10 billion in 2027
The Department of Budget and Management has announced a significant increase in defense spending for next year, allocating an additional P10 billion to the Armed Forces of the Philippines' modernization program.

MANILA — The Armed Forces of the Philippines will receive a substantial boost to its modernization efforts under the proposed 2027 national budget, according to the Department of Budget and Management.
The DBM said Monday that the additional P10 billion allocation will increase the AFP Modernization Program fund from P40 billion to P50 billion, reflecting the government's commitment to strengthening the country's defense capabilities.
The modernization program aims to upgrade the military's aging equipment and infrastructure, enhancing operational readiness across all branches of the armed forces. The initiative is seen as crucial to addressing security challenges facing the Philippines in its strategic Indo-Pacific region.
The proposed budget allocation is part of the broader 2027 spending plan that the DBM is currently developing for legislative consideration. Final approval of the budget will require passage by Congress and the President's signature.
