AFP ramps up security preparations ahead of historic BARMM parliamentary elections

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has conducted a comprehensive assessment of security operations in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) ahead of the region's first parliamentary elections. AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Antonio G. Nafarrete led the evaluation of intensified security efforts and monitoring mechanisms currently in place across the autonomous region.

The security review represents a critical phase in preparations for the September 14 parliamentary elections, which mark a significant milestone in the BARMM's political development. The elections will establish the region's first-ever parliament, a key component of the 2014 Bangsamoro Peace Agreement between the national government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.

The AFP assessment aligns with final preparations being conducted by the Commission on Elections (Comelec), which held its command conference to coordinate election operations across the region. Military and election authorities have coordinated closely to ensure secure and orderly conduct of voting in an area that has long struggled with conflict and instability.

The heightened security posture underscores the government's commitment to ensuring a peaceful and credible electoral process in BARMM. Officials have emphasized that adequate troop deployments and surveillance operations will be maintained throughout the election period to protect voters, election workers, and election materials.
