AFP stands ready to back police in dela Rosa manhunt if needed

MANILA — The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said Tuesday it stands prepared to support police operations in connection with Senator Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa if called upon to do so.

AFP spokesperson Col. Francel Margareth Padilla stated that the Philippine National Police (PNP) will maintain the lead role in any law enforcement activity involving the former national police chief. The military's potential involvement would be contingent on receiving a formal request from civilian law enforcement authorities.

Padilla's statement underscores the institutional coordination between the AFP and PNP in addressing high-profile matters. The comments came as questions swirl around dela Rosa's legal standing and potential liability in connection with various cases.

The PNP has not yet formally requested military assistance in the matter. Standard protocol dictates that civilian law enforcement agencies typically lead investigations and apprehension operations, with military support available when resources or circumstances warrant additional capacity.
