Meteorological officials warned that showers and thundershowers are expected to develop in most parts of the island after 1.00 p.m. on Monday, with conditions likely to intensify during afternoon and evening hours.
The Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva and Southern provinces have been identified as areas of concern, alongside Anuradhapura district in the North Central region. Forecasters cautioned that isolated locations within these zones could experience heavy rainfall accumulations exceeding 100 millimetres, potentially creating hazardous conditions.
The Department of Meteorology has advised the general public to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions ahead of the expected downpour. Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel during peak rainfall hours and to secure loose outdoor items that could be affected by strong winds accompanying the thunderstorms.
No additional weather warnings have been issued at this time, though authorities urged the public to monitor updates from the Department of Meteorology for any changes to the forecast.
