Residents across Sri Lanka should prepare for wet weather as the meteorological department issued its forecast for Thursday, 2 October 2026. According to the Department of Meteorology's 5:30 a.m. advisory, precipitation is expected to develop during the afternoon hours, affecting the majority of the island.
Early morning conditions will see misty weather developing in parts of the Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces during the pre-dawn and dawn hours. These conditions are expected to clear as the day progresses, before afternoon showers and thundershowers move in.
The shift towards wetter conditions from 1:00 p.m. onwards suggests a typical pattern for the season. Residents are advised to monitor further updates from the meteorological authorities and take necessary precautions, particularly in areas prone to flooding or landslips during heavy rainfall.
The forecast indicates that the afternoon and evening periods will see the most significant rainfall activity across the island's regions.
