Afternoon thundershowers forecast across central and eastern regions

Afternoon and evening showers or thundershowers are expected to affect multiple regions across Sri Lanka from 2.00 p.m. today, according to the Department of Meteorology.

The affected areas include districts across the Uva, Eastern, and Central provinces, as well as Polonnaruwa and Mullaitivu districts. Residents in these regions should prepare for wet conditions and potential disruptions during the afternoon and evening hours.

The weather service has flagged the possibility of fairly heavy rainfall, with some localities expected to receive falls exceeding 50 millimetres. Scattered showers may also impact coastal areas, though these are expected to be lighter than inland falls.

Members of the public are advised to remain alert for weather updates and take necessary precautions ahead of the expected precipitation.
