Afternoon thundershowers forecast across central and eastern Sri Lanka

The Department of Meteorology has forecast afternoon thundershowers in most parts of the island beginning October 1, as atmospheric conditions shift to favor wet weather development.

Showers or thundershowers are expected to occur at several locations in the Uva, Eastern, and Central provinces, as well as in the Polonnaruwa and Mullaitivu districts from 1:00 p.m. today, September 30. The meteorological department has indicated that fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 millimeters is possible in some areas during the period.

Island residents in the affected regions are advised to be prepared for the anticipated wet weather, which could impact road conditions and outdoor activities during the afternoon hours. The showers are attributed to changing atmospheric patterns that are becoming increasingly conducive to thunderstorm development across central and eastern zones of the country.
