Ahmedabad police are investigating an extortion case involving a young man who was allegedly threatened and coerced into transferring Rs 25,000 after being lured to an apartment by individuals he met through a dating application.
According to the complaint, the victim was initially befriended by the accused through the dating app. The individuals subsequently invited him to an apartment under the pretense of meeting in person. Once inside, the two men allegedly threatened the complainant and demanded compensation for purported damage to the apartment's fixtures and fittings, seeking Rs 40,000 in total.
The victim, fearing public humiliation and intimidated by threats of filing a police complaint against him, capitulated to the demands and transferred Rs 25,000 online to the accused. He subsequently approached law enforcement to report the incident.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the matter. Authorities have cautioned residents against meeting strangers from dating applications in isolated locations and advised the public to exercise caution when using such platforms.
