AI Tool Helps Reunite Missing Man With Family After 1,200 km Journey
A stranger's use of artificial intelligence technology has helped locate a missing person from Punjab, reuniting him with his anxious family after he travelled over 1,200 kilometres from home. The breakthrough came after conventional search efforts, including police alerts and social media appeals, had yielded no results.

Chaman Lal, a resident of Amritsar, had been missing for an extended period, prompting his family to launch an intensive search across the Punjab region. His relatives, led by Sukhchain Singh, exhausted traditional avenues of investigation, filing reports with local police and circulating his photograph widely on social media platforms in hopes of locating him.
The search took an unexpected turn when a stranger employed ChatGPT, the artificial intelligence language model, to analyse available information about the missing man. Using digital tools and available data, the individual was able to trace Chaman Lal's location, which turned out to be significantly distant from his Amritsar home.
The intervention proved decisive in what had become a challenging missing persons case. The family's persistence, combined with technological assistance, ultimately led to Chaman Lal's discovery and his subsequent reunion with relatives. The case highlights the growing role of artificial intelligence tools in assisting with search and rescue operations in India, particularly in situations where conventional methods have proven inadequate.
Authorities were notified following the discovery, and the case was resolved without further complications. The incident has drawn attention to both the capabilities and limitations of digital tools in locating missing persons, particularly in regions where geographical distances and communication barriers present significant obstacles.
