The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has expressed openness to joining anti-BJP alliances in Uttar Pradesh as the state looks ahead to assembly elections in 2027, party chief Asaduddin Owaisi indicated on Tuesday.
Owaisi referenced AIMIM's approach during the Bihar elections as a template for potential cooperation. During those polls, the party had proposed contesting a limited number of seats as part of a broader coalition arrangement, according to the AIMIM chief.
"We had offered to contest just six seats in Bihar as part of an alliance but faced baseless accusations instead," Owaisi said, highlighting what he characterized as unfair treatment of his party's cooperative stance. The remarks underscore AIMIM's strategy of selective seat-sharing arrangements rather than independent large-scale contests.
The statement comes as regional political alignments continue to evolve across India's most populous state.
