Air India, IndiGo to face parliamentary scrutiny on civil aviation performance

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Undertakings, chaired by BJP MP Baijayant Panda, will conduct separate discussions with Air India Limited and InterGlobe Aviation Ltd (IndiGo) on November 2 to examine the subject of 'Review of Performance of Civil Aviation Sector CPSUs', according to a notice issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat.

On the same day, the committee will also hear from representatives of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) and the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). Both agencies will address the same examination regarding civil aviation sector performance.

The 22-member committee's move comes as Parliament intensifies its oversight of the civil aviation sector, which has witnessed significant operational and financial developments in recent months. The simultaneous appearance of multiple aviation stakeholders suggests the committee is conducting a broad-based assessment of the sector's regulatory framework and operational efficiency.

The review encompasses both commercial carriers and regulatory bodies, indicating Parliament's interest in understanding challenges and performance metrics across India's aviation industry, which has experienced rapid growth and structural changes.
