The Air Itam-LCE bypass project has been given fresh momentum with a funding arrangement that aims to deliver the infrastructure by April 2027. Consortium Zenith Construction will finance the remaining RM50 million required to complete construction, according to details of the development arrangement.
In exchange for the capital injection, the construction consortium will receive ownership of several land lots within the Gurney Bay development area. The arrangement represents a public-private partnership approach to accelerate delivery of the transport corridor, which has faced previous delays.
The bypass is expected to alleviate traffic congestion in the Air Itam area and improve connectivity to the Lumut-Chukai expressway corridor. The project has long been identified as a priority transport initiative for the region, and the new funding structure appears designed to overcome earlier financing constraints.
Details of the project timeline and construction milestones under the new arrangement have not been fully disclosed. The April 2027 completion target, if achieved, would see the bypass operational within approximately two years from the funding agreement.
