Air Marshal Inderpal Singh Walia to take over as IAF Vice Chief

Air Marshal Inderpal Singh Walia is set to assume the position of Vice Chief of the Indian Air Force, marking the next phase in his distinguished military career. The appointment underscores his proven capabilities in senior leadership roles within the service.

Walia's professional trajectory reflects a comprehensive background across multiple critical IAF functions. He has served as the head of the Directorate of Air Staff Inspection (DASI), the IAF's internal oversight and quality assurance body responsible for maintaining operational standards and institutional discipline.

Beyond his domestic responsibilities, the Air Marshal has represented Indian defence interests on the international stage. He previously held the position of Defence Attaché at Indian embassies in Japan and South Korea, roles that enhanced India's defence diplomacy in critical Asia-Pacific nations during a period of evolving regional security dynamics.

Walia's operational credentials are further strengthened by his tenure as Senior Air Staff Officer of Eastern Air Command, one of the IAF's geographically extensive and strategically important commands. His experience encompassing inspection protocols, diplomatic engagement, and operational command positions him well for the Vice Chief's responsibilities, which include overseeing air force operations and assisting the Chief of Air Staff in strategic matters.

The appointment comes as the IAF continues modernisation efforts and addresses evolving security challenges in South Asia and the Indian Ocean region.
