Air quality deteriorates across Malaysia with Sarawak stations in critical zone
Two air monitoring stations in Sarawak have recorded very unhealthy Air Pollutant Index levels, while 29 areas nationwide are experiencing unhealthy air quality. The deterioration marks a significant worsening of atmospheric conditions across the region.

Air quality has degraded considerably across Malaysia, with the situation proving particularly acute in Sarawak where two monitoring stations registered very unhealthy Air Pollutant Index readings on Thursday.
The two Sarawak stations breached the very unhealthy threshold, indicating API levels exceeding 300 and posing potential health risks to the general population. Meanwhile, 29 monitoring stations across the country recorded unhealthy API readings, ranging from 201 to 300, affecting multiple regions including parts of Peninsular Malaysia.
The widespread deterioration in air quality has prompted concerns among environmental and health authorities. Readings at this level can cause respiratory problems and other health complications, particularly among vulnerable groups including children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing respiratory conditions.
Malaysians in affected areas have been advised to limit outdoor activities and take appropriate precautions such as wearing protective masks. Authorities continue to monitor atmospheric conditions closely and are tracking weather patterns and pollution sources contributing to the decline in air quality across the region.
