Air quality deteriorates across West Malaysia as haze episode intensifies

Air quality has worsened considerably across West Malaysia, with the Klang Valley bearing the brunt of the haze episode. The Air Pollutant Index (API) readings at key monitoring stations have climbed into the unhealthy range, prompting concerns among residents and health authorities.

Johan Setia in Selangor recorded the highest API reading at 174, according to latest measurements. The station in Cheras followed closely with a reading of 170, while Shah Alam registered 169. All three locations have breached the threshold considered safe for public health, particularly for vulnerable groups including children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions.

The deterioration in air quality comes as meteorological conditions have made dispersal of pollutants more difficult. Authorities have advised the public to limit outdoor activities and use appropriate protective equipment when venturing outside. Schools and workplaces in heavily affected areas are being urged to monitor air quality advisories and take precautionary measures to protect occupants.
