Air quality improves in Serian as three Sarawak areas remain unhealthy

Air quality conditions in Serian have shown signs of improvement, offering some relief to residents in the Sarawakian district as pollution levels eased from previously recorded highs.

However, the positive development in Serian contrasts sharply with conditions elsewhere in the state. Three major population centres continued to experience unhealthy air quality, with readings well into the very unhealthy category on the Air Pollutant Index (API).

Kuching, the state capital, recorded an API reading of 277, while Samarahan posted 271 and Sri Aman registered 261. All three readings fall within the very unhealthy range, which typically prompts health advisories and recommendations for the public to limit outdoor activities.

The variations in air quality across different parts of Sarawak underscore the localized nature of air pollution challenges in the region. Factors including weather patterns, proximity to industrial activities, and local sources of pollution can significantly influence readings from one district to another.

Authorities have not yet indicated whether the improvement in Serian signals a broader trend or remains an isolated development, as monitoring of air quality levels across Sarawak continues.
