Airbnb bans hosts from requiring guests to perform cleaning chores
Airbnb has implemented new rules prohibiting hosts from requiring guests to strip beds, wash dishes, or perform other household tasks during their stays. The policy takes effect for all bookings made from November 20 onwards.

The global accommodation platform Airbnb announced updated house rules designed to enhance guest protections and clarify host responsibilities. Under the revised policy, hosts are no longer permitted to mandate that guests complete cleaning duties or other household chores as a condition of their reservation.
The new guidelines specify that hosts cannot require guests to strip linens from beds, wash dishes, take out trash, or perform similar tasks that would traditionally fall under property maintenance responsibilities. The rules apply universally across Airbnb's platform to all reservations booked on or after November 20.
The policy change reflects Airbnb's efforts to standardize expectations around guest experiences and host obligations. By explicitly prohibiting mandatory chores, the platform aims to ensure that guests receive the accommodations they have booked without additional unpaid labor requirements.
Hosts remain able to request that guests leave properties in reasonable condition, consistent with existing cleanliness standards. However, the onus for deep cleaning and major household tasks now rests firmly with the property owner or their designated cleaning service rather than with temporary residents.
