The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has initiated a comprehensive modernisation drive aimed at strengthening passenger amenities and operational efficiency at the airport. Officials have conducted detailed assessments to identify pain points in the current passenger journey and formulated a structured action plan to address these concerns.
The improvement programme encompasses multiple facility upgrades, with priority given to enhancing wayfinding infrastructure through improved signage systems across terminals. The authority plans to establish dedicated workstations to streamline passenger services and passenger-facing operations, while simultaneously upgrading existing furniture and fittings to contemporary standards.
The move comes in response to representations from the Tamil Nadu government, which had written to the Union Centre highlighting the need for operational improvements and service enhancements at the facility. The state had previously sought intervention regarding airport management standards, prompting the AAI to accelerate its modernisation schedule.
AAI officials indicated that the phased implementation of these upgrades would proceed without disrupting routine airport operations. The authority has allocated resources to execute the enhancement programme across multiple quarters, with particular emphasis on customer-facing improvements that directly impact passenger satisfaction metrics.
The initiative reflects broader efforts across Indian airports to elevate service standards and align facilities with international best practices, positioning regional hubs as competitive gateways for both domestic and international travel.
