Airports Authority to build new international airport in Odisha's Puri

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has secured all necessary environmental and Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) approvals to move forward with constructing a new international airport in Puri, Odisha. The project, valued at ₹5,631 crore, marks a significant expansion of aviation infrastructure in the eastern region.

The airport's inaugural phase has been engineered to handle approximately 4.6 million passengers per year, positioning it as a substantial addition to India's airport network. The facility is expected to bolster connectivity to the pilgrimage city and enhance tourism access to the coastal state.

The greenfield airport will serve both domestic and international routes, with the capacity to accommodate growing air traffic demand in the region. The project's development follows a comprehensive environmental impact assessment process and compliance with coastal zone regulations applicable to the area.

Once operational, the Puri airport is anticipated to generate employment opportunities and contribute to the region's economic development. The project represents continued investment by AAI in expanding civil aviation infrastructure across India, particularly in underserved areas with significant tourism and economic potential.
