Bharti Airtel founder and Chairman Sunil Mittal has described the telecom giant as an "institution" that transcends individual leadership, while suggesting the next generation of the group's management may explore business opportunities beyond the core telecommunications segment.
During recent comments on the group's strategic direction, Mittal indicated that while Airtel remains his primary institutional focus, successor leadership would have the latitude to pursue diversification strategies. The remarks suggest a potential shift in how the Mittal family approaches portfolio expansion under future stewardship.
On Airtel's international footprint, Mittal indicated the group remains open to expanding its European operations, where it currently operates through a stake in British Telecom. However, any expansion plans would depend on identifying appropriate partners or management talent to execute such initiatives effectively.
