AIUDF nominates Badruddin Ajmal for Nagaon Lok Sabha seat

The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) announced Badruddin Ajmal as its candidate for the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency, marking a significant development in the state's electoral landscape ahead of general elections.

Ajmal, who heads the AIUDF, will represent the party in the key Assam seat. The nomination comes as various political formations jostle for position across the state's parliamentary constituencies.

State Congress president Gaurav Gogoi commented on the development, suggesting it reflected political calculations by competing camps. Gogoi alleged that the BJP had sought Ajmal's involvement, characterising the move as a sign of panic among ruling dispensation allies.

The Nagaon seat has traditionally been a closely contested constituency in Assam. Ajmal's entry into the fray is expected to reshape the electoral dynamics in the region, with the AIUDF looking to consolidate its support base among minority voters.

The AIUDF has been a significant political player in Assam, particularly in constituencies with substantial Muslim populations. The party's candidate selection strategy for the coming elections will likely influence broader coalition politics in the state.
