Ajmer jail official arrested for unauthorised removal of inmates

The superintendent of Ajmer Central Jail, Divya Chaudhary, was arrested following an investigation into a serious breach of prison protocol. On July 12, Chaudhary allegedly transported two female inmates serving life sentences for murder out of the facility in a private vehicle without obtaining the required court clearance.

The two prisoners were taken out ostensibly to clean a residential flat, raising questions about the decision-making and oversight within the jail administration. Such movements of undertrial or convicted prisoners are strictly regulated under prison rules and require explicit judicial sanction.

Chaudhary had been suspended from her duties pending the investigation into the unauthorised removal. The delayed arrest, occurring approximately two months after the incident, suggests the matter underwent official scrutiny before criminal action was initiated.

The case highlights persistent concerns about security protocols and administrative accountability within India's prison system. Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the circumstances that led to the decision or whether other officials were involved in facilitating the unauthorised outing.
