Akhilesh jibes at UP deputy CM after BJP's narrow MLC election win

In a pointed comment after the UP MLC poll results, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav suggested that Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Maurya was privately pleased with the outcome despite the BJP's victory.

The jibe came after voting concluded for 11 seats across graduate and teachers' constituencies in the UP Legislative Council. The BJP emerged with a narrow majority, winning six seats, while the Samajwadi Party made a strong showing by securing five seats in the election.

The results marked a closely contested battle between the two major political parties in India's most populous state. Yadav's remarks appeared to underscore the competitive nature of the polls, with the SP improving its position in the upper house despite the BJP's continued edge.

The MLC elections hold significance as the council plays an advisory role in the state legislature, and success in these contests is often viewed as a barometer of party strength at the grassroots level ahead of larger electoral contests.
